“Supreme Court stays promotion of 68 judicial officers, including Rahul Gandhi found guilty of defamation”

New Delhi: Surat’s Chief Justice Judicial Magistrate H.H. pronounced Rahul Gandhi guilty in the defamation case. The Supreme Court stayed the promotion of 68 judicial officers including Verma. Justices MR. Shaw, C.T. The order was issued by a bench comprising Ravikumar and others.

Ravikumar Maheta and Sachin Prataprai Mehta, who are senior civil judge cadre of Gujarat, approached the Supreme Court questioning the promotion list. The Supreme Court clarified that the stay order was issued because the list was released while the petition questioning the promotion was under consideration by the Supreme Court.

According to the rules, 65 per cent of the District Judge posts are to be filled on the basis of merit and seniority of judicial officers. However, the petitioners argued that the appointment was made without complying with this. The bench directed him not to take charge of the promoted post. In the petition, Chief Justice D.Y. The Supreme Court also stated that the bench chaired by Chandrachud will hear the arguments in detail.

HH included in the promotion list. Verma was appointed as Additional District Judge of Rajkot. With the Supreme Court passing the stay order, Verma will have to resume his duties as the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Surat.
