“Supreme Court Rules Twitter Not Responsible for Terrorist Attack in Istanbul”

In the wake of the terrorist attack in Paris in 2015 and against a nightclub in Istanbul on 1 January 2017, several media giants have been sued by survivors.

The family of one of the victims in Istanbul believed that Twitter had contributed to the terrorist attack by not removing messages posted by IS.

But on Thursday the Supreme Court unanimously concluded that the lawsuit from the family had to be dismissed. The conclusion was that Twitter cannot be blamed for the attack that killed 39 people during the New Year celebrations in Istanbul.

In the second lawsuit, which concerned an American student who was killed in the terrorist attack in Paris, the Supreme Court unanimously concluded that the case had to be sent back to a lower court.
