Supreme Court President Participates in Preparatory Meeting for World Law Congress in New York City

The president of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) and of the Council of the Judiciary (CPJ), the magistrate Luis Henry Molina Penawill participate this Thursday in the preparatory meeting for the 28th edition of the World Law Congress held in New York City, a meeting organized by the World Association of Jurists (WJA).

The World Law Congress will take place in July 2023 and will bring together world leaders, heads of state, judges, legislators, academics, lawyers, activists and students to discuss a wide variety of current issues that the legal community must address and propose solutions.

The World Association of Jurists is an open and free forum where magistrates, judges, prosecutors, lawyers, law professors, notaries, registrars, and other professionals and students from around the world work cooperatively to strengthen and expand the rule of law and its institutions.

60 years after its foundation and as a Non-Governmental Organization with a special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, the Association has provided a unique forum for the international community to work closely with governments, other NGOs and international associations to foster cooperative dialogue on world peace.

Among its main activities are the biennial World Law Congress (every two years) and the presentation of the World Peace and Freedom Prize. As a result of the 2019 Madrid Declaration, the WorldLawFoundation was created as the executive arm to organize the main activities of the WorldJuristAssociation.

The World Law Congress New York 2023 is part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the World Association of Jurists.

The agenda from Molina Pena

During his visit to New York, Judge Luis Henry Molina Pena will meet with Richard Wagner, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, and Michelle Muschett, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) and Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP).

It also includes a visit to the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the UN, the presentation of the World Law Congress New York, the WLC Medal of Honor ceremony and New Horizons of the Rule of Law. Likewise, he will meet with Luc Lavrysen, president of the Constitutional Court of Belgium and president of the Forum of Environmental Judges of the European Union and with Josue Fiallo, permanent representative of the Dominican Republic before the Organization of American States (OAS).
