“Supreme Court Petition Requests President to Inaugurate New Parliament Building: Violation of Constitution?”

New Delhi:Petition in the Supreme Court asking the Lok Sabha Secretariat to instruct the President Draupadi Murmu to inaugurate the new Parliament building. The building is to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 28th of this month. CR Jayasukin approached the Supreme Court.

The petition pointed out that the statement issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on May 18 and the invitation letters issued by the Lok Sabha Secretary General were in violation of the Constitution. The President, who is the first citizen, is the head of the Parliament. All important decisions of the country are taken in the name of the President. The petition pointed out that the Parliament consists of the President, the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. As per Article 79 of the Constitution, the President, who is an integral part of the Parliament, cannot be excluded from its inauguration. By doing so, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has taken a wrong step, the petition said.
