Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia Calls on Muslims to Investigate Crescent Sighting for Shawwal Month in 2023

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Supreme Court in Saudi Arabia called, on Tuesday, all Muslims throughout the Kingdom to investigate seeing the crescent of the month of Shawwal on Thursday evening, corresponding to the 29th of Ramadan 1444 AH, April 20, 2023 AD.

And according to what was reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the court stated in an announcement: “In view of what was included in Supreme Court Decision No. 168 AH, dated 8/29/1444 AH, that Thursday 9/1/1444 AH, according to the Umm Al-Qura calendar, corresponding to March 23, 2023 AD is the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 1444 AH, so the Supreme Court wants all Muslims throughout the Kingdom to investigate seeing the crescent of the month of Shawwal on the evening of Thursday 9/29/1444 AH, according to the Umm Al-Qura calendar, corresponding to April 20, 2023 AD”.

And the announcement added, as published by the (SPA) agency: “The Supreme Court requests those who see the crescent with the naked eye, or through binoculars, to report to the nearest court to him, and to record his testimony in it, or to contact the nearest center, to help him reach the nearest court.”

The statement stressed that “the Supreme Court hopes that those who have the ability to see interest in this matter, and join the committees that were formed in the regions for this purpose, and calculate the reward and reward for participation, because it is cooperation in righteousness and piety, and benefit to all Muslims,” ​​according to the Saudi agency.
