Supreme Court of Justice of Moldova denies ex-President Igor Dodon’s request to lift ban on leaving the country

The Supreme Court of Justice of Moldova refused to lift the ban on leaving the country for ex-President Igor Dodon.

Details: The SCJ noted that Dodon, being at large, “could take all measures to destroy, influence some witnesses, by publicly intimidating them with certain statements outside the trial in court, which would seriously affect them.

Literally: “The objective nature of the criminal process will contribute to the evasion of responsibility and criminal punishment of the said person.”

What came before:

Dodon has been under house arrest since May 26, 2022 in connection with the so-called case about the “bag” – named after a video showing Dodon receiving a black package from the former “ruler of Moldova”, oligarch and leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc. The ex-president has already been released from house arrest, but he remains under judicial control. Later ex-President of Moldova became a defendant in another criminal case – about obtaining a fictitious medical certificate, on the basis of which he asked to travel to Romania for the treatment of his son.
