Supporting Parkinson’s Disease: Check Presented to Parkinson Café and Boxing School Teus de Kruyf

On Wednesday, August 23, Stanley de Looze (Summer Spectacle at the Lake) handed over a check to the Parkinson Café and Boxing School Teus de Kruyf.

Every year, the Zomerspektakel aan het Meer chooses a local charity to sponsor. The organization wants to give back to the community. This year the organization chooses to support not one but two causes; both about Parkinson’s disease. One of those charities is the Parkinson Café from Alphen aan den Rijn. In addition, the Zomerspektakel handed over a check to boxing school Teus de Kruyf for their program ‘Parkinson Box’.

Parkinson’s disease

Parkinson’s is a condition in which certain cells in your brain slowly break down. This ensures that signals are forwarded less well. It’s like your body’s “autopilot” is faltering. This makes moving less smooth, resulting in movement complaints. Parkinson’s disease is a debilitating disease that eventually leads to complete disability.

Parkinson’s Cafe

The Parkinson Café wants to encourage people with Parkinson’s disease to come together and exchange experiences, so that they can better maintain control over their own lives. This applies not only to those directly affected, but also to their partners, their children and other interested parties.

Boksschool Teus de Kruyf

Teus de Kruyf has set up a program called ‘Parkinson Box’, for people with Parkinson’s. He wants to encourage people with the disease to exercise more. Boxing workouts are often recommended for Parkinson’s patients because of the many benefits it can provide. Boxing can help reduce symptoms such as stiffness and difficulty performing daily activities. “In addition, boxing training can also improve cognitive functions,” says Teus. “After all, it requires a combination of concentration, coordination and responsiveness. That can help encourage the brain to learn and adapt.”

Cheque

The Zomerspektakel aan het Meer handed over the checks to their two charities of this edition on August 23, 2023. It concerns an amount of € 1500 for the Parkinson Café and € 3000 for Boxing School Teus de Kruyf. Both parties are extremely grateful for the sponsored amount of money. Teus de Kruyf says he wants to purchase a punching bag with a force measurement sensor. This way the boxers can measure their progress. “It is an expensive investment, but with this nice amount we can purchase it,” says Teus.

The handover was a great success. Would you like to know more about the initiatives of the organizations? Click here for more information The Parkinson Cafe in Boksschool Teus de Kruyf.
