“Supporting Metastatic Breast Cancer Research with Unique Cabo de Gata Sand Keychains”

Precisely because of the importance of research in the fight against cancer, all the initiatives that are launched to raise funds in this direction are few. An idea was born in Almería that has enjoyed success from day one, due to its originality and purpose. Its promoter is a patient with metastatic breast cancer since he found out about his diagnosis, he has not stopped thinking about what he could do to contribute his bit to this cause. She is Mariset Morales And, coincidentally, this story is about sand.

Cabo de Gata sand in a methacrylate capsule in the shape of a bow that symbolizes the need to raise awareness among the population and give visibility to a disease that every day more people in Almería and around the world suffer from. A pathology that requires the involvement of the whole of society to obtain a firm commitment and help finance research projects, because science is the only way to find a cure.

Hand in hand with the craft company Good Pita, Mariset Morales She has embarked on the path of selling solidarity keyrings, as she says: “The most beautiful on the planet.” They are made by hand with a lot of dedication and love, and with a natural product from an incomparable place that provides the necessary strength and vitality for a similar project. You just have to see the manufacturing process to realize how special they become.

As the promoter of this brilliant initiative explains, “with the sale of the key chains, a third of the profit goes to the Contigo Foundation for metastatic breast cancer research. The price of each one is 15 euros and they are delivered to your home for only one more euro”.

Mariset Morales points out that “when you are diagnosed with cancer, your life is focused on finishing the treatment, being able to cure yourself and return to your life, to your normality. When you are diagnosed with metastases, the only thing you value is living as long as possible and trying to make the disease chronic, and for this, treatments are needed, many lines, because each line is a shot of hope. Maybe we are tired of reading the hastag #masinvestigacionparamasvida and we don’t realize the value it really has until research is your only option.”

Sentence that after his “bad experience in Almería”, which is already more than well known due to the diffusion that it has given him on social networks and through the local and national media, he fled to Madrid, where he continues in the trial of the doctor Javier Cortés and his team. “They have given me the security, peace and empathy that I needed. As a result of being there I got to know Javier’s foundation, called Foundation with you and, as always, I decided to be an active part of my disease. I wanted to raise funds in some way to donate to this foundation that specifically studies new drugs in metastatic breast cancer. I had several ideas and contacted several people but it was not possible, until I came across Esther and her brand good pita. Then everything made sense, because besides, I had already made him several requests because everything he does is precious and has a lot of emotional value ”.

He explains that he has always liked the sea, in fact it has been his refuge. “I love Almería and its beaches, and this was a way of doing something different, supportive, that was beautiful and also had a special meaning. I didn’t want the typical pink breast cancer ribbon. Many cancer patients have transmitted to me the peace that the sea transmits to them, just like me. From minute one, Esther made herself available to me and offered to pay the amount of the first 20 key chains were donated entirely to the association and the rest 1/3. We did not think that so many would be sold, the truth is, there are already more than 250 key chains. This project makes me very excited because it records the solidarity of the human being, and how people who have not experienced the disease up close empathize with us and contribute their grain of sand to the cause”. Mariset says that “this keyring symbolizes that small contribution of each person to improve our quality of life.” And he remembers a phrase that he has always liked: “Be the change that you want to see in the world”, a motto that he assures is what he is trying to do.

That was where she began to work with resin and give birth to a beautiful project such as creating pieces inspired by the nature of Almería and reflecting the essence of Cabo de Gata. “I have always worked self-taught and little by little I have expanded my knowledge of resin and its versatility. You can create from a ring to a painting, and each work is unique. The creation process takes time, because with the resin you work in layers and for the piece to be beautiful you have to dedicate patience and a lot of love. I mix resin with sand, I put resin with blue pigment to simulate water, another layer with the waves, I put shells on it…, and once the piece is dry, I take it out of the mold, sand the edges and mount it in this case to make it a keychain Everything that is handmade is precious, and in this case it shows from the moment you have something handmade in your hands”, says Esther. The purpose of Buena Pita is “to offer a little piece of Almería to anyone who wants to have a memory of this beautiful land and its people, and for this I try to reflect the essence of this province in each piece”, he points out, while sentence that he did not hesitate for a second to support Mariset’s project when he met her.
