The return to school is approaching and community organizations such as Se hace camino NY carry out activities to support boys and girls in their return to school.
“We have a lot of need in the community, but also one of the things that motivates us to do this event is because the children are excited that they are going to start their school year” and throughout the school year they can have new experiences, they can also connect more with other children at school.

It is the 18th anniversary of this activity, which this Saturday took place in Brooklyn.
Families came, many of them with Latin American roots.
And in addition to the backpack, books, pencils and other supplies, the children had the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities and also with other children from their neighborhood.
Pablo Mendoza describes this activity as something very positive.
“It is very nice, it is also a help that they give us with these school supplies for people who do not have a job and this recreation is really good, the children enjoy it, they clear their minds.”
“It’s very necessary because sometimes you don’t have enough to buy a backpack, it’s very expensive and so are the notebooks, and it helps us a lot,” adds Delia Tusa.
Meanwhile, Mirna Avilés comments:
“Well, it’s a great opportunity for us. We need the help they give us like any family and we thank God because here Make the Road supports the people a lot.”
The organizers share how significant it is for children to have their school supplies.
“We know that every year they send them with a list of all the things they have to buy and that makes it very difficult for families to be able to buy all those necessary things for the children, so now more than ever we know that this event is important and you can seeing is a long line because the need is so great,” says Julissa Bisono of Make the Road New York.
