Supporting AIDS Patients: Wat Phra Bat Namphu Calls for Donations and Alms

Wat Phra Bat Namphu in Lop Buri Province is organizing a special event to support AIDS patients. The abbot, Chao Khun Alongkot, along with a group of monks from the Phra Dhammayatra Project of Mercy to Support the World, will be receiving alms on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

The event aims to unite the power of faith and encourage Buddhists who are philanthropists and relatives of villagers with faith to offer food to the monks. Donations of rice, dry food, medicines, medical supplies, and other necessities are welcomed from shops, villagers, merchants, and anyone who wishes to contribute. The offering will take place at the municipal market area of Song Phi Nong.

Phrarachavisuddhiprachanart, a representative from Wat Phra Bat Namphu, highlighted the importance of raising awareness about AIDS. While the disease cannot be cured, it can be prevented through changes in health behaviors, particularly safe sex practices. The Bureau of Epidemiology has reported a decrease in the number of AIDS cases and deaths due to the treatment of patients with antiretroviral drugs. However, there are still over 1 million people infected with AIDS in Thailand.

The number of people infected with AIDS continues to rise each year, leading to an increase in orphans. Wat Phra Bat Namphu currently houses more than 1,800 individuals in need of assistance. To address this, the temple is calling for donations of necessities, rice, dry food, medicine, and medical supplies, especially items like soap, toothpaste, sanitary napkins, and personal care products. Those who wish to contribute can donate at Wat Phra Bat Namphu.

Chao Khun Alongkot is inviting villagers, merchants, and the community of Bangli market in Song Phi Nong Municipality to join together in making donations.
