Supporters to Pieter Omtzigt march in Enschede for CDA MP | Enschede

ENSCHEDE – Dozens of people have gathered around noon at the town hall on the Ei van Ko in Enschede, to show their support to the CDA MP Pieter Omtzigt from Twente. From noon they walk in circles on the square, a ‘support march’ for the politician from Enschede.

The support march started at 11.55 am (five minutes to midnight) and is an idea of Harold van Garderen from Veenendaal. He does not call it a demonstration or manifestation. “Without banner and without slogans. Just walk and talk about what’s going on, ”he told this newspaper earlier. It is estimated that about 200 to 250 people join the march.

“I think everyone feels that Pieter Omtzigt has something to do,” said Van Garderen earlier about the support march. The events of last week are the last straw for him. Kajsa Ollongren, scout for the cabinet formation, was photographed at the Binnenhof with notes showing the sentence ‘position Omtzigt, function elsewhere’. The Twente MP received more than 342,000 votes, good for about five parliamentary seats.

Surcharge affair

In recent years, Omtzigt has worked for the victims of the benefits affair, among others, and is popular among his followers. But within the cabinet and his own party CDA Omtzigt is seen by some as difficult. The march in Enschede was set up to give the politician, who is currently at home overworked, a helping hand.
