Supporters of Evo Morales ‘take’ barracks in Bolivia; they retain military

Holy Cross. Protesters related to former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) they took the “Cacique Juan Maraza” barracks and they took of hostages to soldiers in the region of Villa Tunari, department of Cochabamba, after an operation to unblock routes by the Bolivian Police with the support of Army troops, after 19 days of road closures, local media reported.

“We ask that the blockades of Parotani (Cochabamba), all the blocking points, not be intervened, since the lives of my instructors and my soldiers are in danger,” says a soldier recorded by the protesters in a video broadcast on social networks. .

Social organizations related to former President Morales have maintained at least 20 road blockades since October 14, mainly in the department of Cochabamba, which prevents the transit of passengers and cargo between the cities of eastern and western Bolivia.

President Luis Arce demanded on October 30 that the road blockades be lifted immediately to normalize the country’s economy, and that if not, he will use his constitutional powers to restore traffic on the routes.

“We demand the immediate lifting of all blocking points for the restoration of normality in our country. If this clamorous request from the Bolivian people is not heard, our democratically elected government, with more than 55 percent of the votes, will exercise its constitutional powers. to protect the interest of the people,” said Arce, in a message to the Bolivian nation.

For his part, Morales blamed the president in a public letter this Friday for possible deaths if he authorizes the intervention of blockades with the military and police.

“If you give the order for police and military intervention, you will be the one who will bear the responsibility of dividing and hurting Bolivia irremediably and without return. “His name will remain in history along with that of Añez (Jeanine as one of the presidents who impoverished the people, weakened the State and who pointed his weapons against his own people),” the letter says.

Morales reiterated his accusation against Arce for supposedly knowing who attempted his life last Sunday, October 27 in the town of Villa Tunari.

“You know who gave the order to shoot my life, and you know that those around you will not hesitate to repeat it if necessary,” he said.

Arce was Morales’ Economy Minister for most of his 14 years in government, but now the two are facing off for the presidential candidacy of the Movimiento Al Socialismo (MAS) for the 2025 general elections.
