Tehran – Oscar winner and leading actress Tarane Alidosti (38) has been arrested in Iran. After Amini’s death on Sept. 16, when he was arrested for not wearing the headscarf properly, there is a huge protest going on all over Iran. Tarane Alidoshi was arrested for supporting the agitators.
International news agency AFP reported, quoting local media, Mizan Online News, that prominent personalities, including Alidosti, had been questioned or arrested. The film ‘The Salesman’ won the Oscar in 2016. Alidosti’s film ‘Leila’s Brothers’ was screened this year at the Cannes Film Festival.
On December 8, Ali Dosti posted a note on social media in support of the protesters. The arrest was made in the name of this note. Meanwhile, on Nov. 9, the actress showed her sympathy at the protest by sharing a photo of her with no face covered on Instagram of hers. A photo was released of Alidosti holding a placard with ‘Women, life, freedom’, one of the main slogans of the anti-government protesters. She temporarily stopped acting to support the families of those who died in the unrest.
The 27th International Film Festival held in Thiruvananthapuram also saw support for the protests in Iran. Filmmaker Mehnas Mohammadi, who campaigns for women’s rights in Iran, received the Spirit of Cinema award at the IFFK. Greek director and jury member Athena Rachel Sangari received the award on behalf of Mehnas, who was unable to attend the fair due to the travel ban. Rachel Sangari showed solidarity with the protest by displaying Mehnas’ bobbed hair on stage.
