BANJARMASIN, KOMPAS.TV – The Banjarmasin City Government assisted by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) continues to finalize the technical implementation of the National Child Immunization Month (BIAN) in Banjarmasin which will be held from 18 May.

The Health Office stated that BIAN would first start at the posyandu and puskesmas before going to schools in Banjarmasin.

For parents or people who want to get complete immunization services, they can visit the health facility.

The vaccines that will be provided are chase immunizations, namely Polio OPV and IPV vaccines, pentavalent vaccines namely DPT-HB-HIB and additional immunizations, namely Measles or Measles-Rubela (MR).

“May 18 kick-off, starting at posyandu and health centers, after that at schools,” said the Head of the Banjarmasin Health Office, M. Ramadhan.

The Banjarmasin City Government underlined the importance of routine immunization.

Although the decline in immunization outcomes has occurred globally, Banjarmasin is an important area with many targets.

In Indonesia, during 2020 and 2021 the coverage of complete immunization is reduced by 10 percent from 2019 or at least 4.6 million children have not been fully immunized.

Where for measles and rubella alone in 2021 it is only 58.5 percent of the minimum target of 81.0 percent.

This certainly raises concerns about the spread of diseases that can actually be prevented by immunization.

“The BIAN program is a solution to current national problems, there is no reason why the local government does not fully support it,” said Machli Riyadi, Assistant I for Government and People’s Welfare at the Banjarmasin Secretariat.

In addition to being a national program, BIAN in Banjarmasin is also supported by international funding from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in terms of finance, logistics and technical guidance.

“All to ensure this program (BIAN) runs successfully,” said Zonal Coordinator of Immunization UNICEF for the Kalimantan-NTB-NTT Region, Jana Fitria Kartika Sari.

During BIAN, the target for additional immunization coverage for measles or measles and rubella is at least 95%, while pursuing immunization is at least 80%.

For Kalimantan the measles-rubella immunization targets for children aged 9 months to under 12 years and catch-up immunization for children aged 12 to 59 months.
