Supported by Privacy Features, Facebook and Snapchat Can Still Track iOS Users

Jakarta, Selular.ID – Earlier this year, Apple introduced the privacy feature App Tracking Transparency (ATT), as part of iOS 14.5.

The ATT feature gives users the option to decide if they want the app to track it across other apps and websites for customized ads.

By disabling it, the app developer is not allowed to request from the user to enable it or offer an advantage for doing so.

However, a report shares that services like Facebook and Snapchat are still tracking iOS users who have opted out, thanks to loopholes in Apple’s guidelines.

As the Financial Times reports, services like Facebook and Snapchat have found creative ways to track iPhone users.

The app is reportedly exploiting a loophole that Apple’s guide has. This guide states that app developers may not retrieve data from the device for the purpose of uniquely identifying it.

A loophole in Apple’s guidelines allows developers to do so, even if the user has disabled tracking in the settings.

As such, it allows developers to track but still comply with the rules set by Apple. Companies like Facebook have previously complained about the privacy feature.

Facebook claims that this feature has the potential to hurt small businesses in the process. But if the report proves to be true, then Facebook has found a solution to the problem.

Previously, Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, responded to developers’ insistence that Apple support third-party app stores by suggesting consumers to buy and use Android phones instead of iPhones.

Cook’s response indicates that Apple is firm in defending its decision not to support downloading apps from third-party app stores on its work devices.
