Support role for Marianne Vos at the European Championships: “It was a particularly hard job”

Marianne Vos was one of the (shadow) favorites at the start of the European cyclocross Championships in Namur, but failed to play a leading role during the cross. “I really suffered, I am devastated. This course doesn’t lie, “Vos, who crossed the finish line in ninth place, later said in conversation with Cycling Flash.
Vos didn’t exactly jump off the starting blocks and had to chase after one lap. The reigning world champion on the field then proved unable to really get back and scored an anonymous cross. However, she enjoyed her competition. “I think it is a very nice course. I think it suits me best on a super day. Today it was mainly a matter of hard work ”.
“Today I had to do my race and try to keep my pace. So eventually you will come to a place. Now it is important to look further. I’m happy to have taken part, it was a great championship. You hope to be a little shorter, but it’s no different.
The now 35-year-old Vos is now mainly looking forward to the next championships. “Now I mainly look at the months of January and February, the Dutch National Championships and the World Cup. A world championship is always special, but obviously you expect it even more when it is in your country (Hoogerheide, ed). “
