Burkina Faso’s PAPEA 2 Programme Empowers 200 Individuals with Breeding Kits and Chicks
In a significant step toward fostering agricultural entrepreneurship, the Support Program for the Promotion of Agricultural Entrepreneurship-Phase 2 (PAPEA 2) distributed breeding packages and chicks to 200 individuals during a ceremony held on January 22, 2025, in Bobo, Burkina Faso. This initiative, funded by the Swiss cooperation and implemented by the HELVETAS consortium / SNV with technical support from AGM Consulting, aims to transform agriculture into a dynamic and income-generating sector.
The event marked a pivotal moment in the program’s mission to strengthen the capacities of young people, women, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). According to Abdoul Nasser Zongo, Managing Director of AGM Consultancy, PAPEA 2 is designed to promote agricultural entrepreneurship and enhance community resilience. Among the beneficiaries, 50 were IDPs, highlighting the program’s focus on inclusivity.
Before receiving the kits,participants underwent thorough training to equip them with the technical and practical skills needed to manage their new resources effectively. Abdoul Kader Sawadogo, a representative of PAPEA, emphasized the program’s commitment to supporting beneficiaries through rigorous monitoring. “But in addition to this support, we are counting on the commitment of the beneficiaries themselves to get the most effect from these resources and contribute to the transformation of their communities,” he stated.Jacob Koudougou, Secretary General of the Hauts-Bassins special regional delegation, underscored the transformative potential of the initiative. “They symbolize your role in carrying out this agropastoral and fishing offensive,” he told the beneficiaries, emphasizing that the kits are more than just tools—they represent an possibility to rebuild lives and communities.
The breeding packages include 10 hens,1 rooster,3 feeders,3 drinkers,and a 50 kg bag of chicken feed,along with vitamins and antibiotics. The chick kits consist of 50 chicks, feeders, drinkers, and specialized feed. On the day of the ceremony, 110 beneficiaries, including 24 IDPs, received their kits, with the remaining 90 set to receive theirs in the coming weeks.
Abdoul Kader Boly, a representative of the beneficiaries, expressed profound gratitude for the initiative. “this is much more than help; it provides a way to rebuild our lives,” he said, vowing to use the resources to create a better future for himself and his family.
