Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Minister of Religion Ruby Cholil Qoumas support the policy of Permendikbudristek Number 30 of 2021 regarding the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) in Higher Education which has been a polemic recently.
He said that when he met the Minister of Education and Technology Nadiem Makarim at the Ministry of Religion Office, Jakarta, Monday (9/11).
“We support the policy that has been issued by the Minister,” Yaqut said in his official statement quoted on Tuesday (9/11).
Yaqut said his party would issue a Circular of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Religion to support the policy for State Religious Universities throughout Indonesia.
Yaqut admitted that he agreed with Nadiem that sexual violence was one of the obstacles to achieving national education goals.
The chairman of GP Ansor said that the public should not turn a blind eye to this. This is because sexual violence has often occurred in the educational environment.
“And we don’t want this to continue. With this policy, we hope that victims can speak up and sexual violence in education can be stopped,” said Yaqut.
Previously, Nadiem issued Permendikbudristek Number 30 of 2021 on August 31, 2021. This rule then sparked controversy because several parties protested the rule.
Criticism came from the Muhammadiyah Organization, which assessed that the regulation had problems from a formal and material perspective. One of them is because there is an article that is considered to mean the legalization of free sex on campus.
The refusal also came from the Islamic Ormas Council who requested that the Permendikbud be revoked because it had indirectly legalized adultery. Nadiem was also urged to revoke the Permendikbud. Kemendikbudristek itself has strongly denied this interpretation
