Support fund for the private sector in case of emergency: UEMOA meeting in Ouaga to confirm the feasibility study

The UEMOA Regional Consular Chamber (CCR) is holding a regional workshop from August 6 to 8, 2024 in Ouagadougou to examine the possibilities and feasibility of establishing a regional structural assistance fund, stability, recovery and re -building the private sector in the event of major risks. The opening took place on August 6, 2024.

The workshop to confirm the possibilities and the feasibility study was held in the presence of the vice-president of the CCR of the UEMOA Burkina Faso, Adama Ouédraogo representing the president of the CCR UEMOA, Helena Nosolini Embalo and the representative of the president of the Room. Burkina Faso Trade and Industry (CCI-BF), Noé Nana. The UEMOA Regional Consular Chamber (CCR) works hard to promote a dynamic and resilient private sector according to CCR UEMOA presidential representative, Adama Ouédraogo. However, recent crises, among others, the security situation and COVID-19, have shown the fragility of these companies despite major unforeseen risks. It is therefore essential to put in place effective support mechanisms to prevent, stabilize and relaunch the economic activity of the Union, especially in times of crisis. It is with this in mind that this workshop is being held to confirm the opportunity and the feasibility study carried out by the research company “Knowledge and Development”. This study, according to the representative of the president of the CCI-BF, Noé Nana, comes at a time when the challenges to the private sector of the community are very great because of the various crises that countries have been suffering from the beginning of this decade. The regional structural fund that UEMOA CCR intends to respond precisely to this need. This three-day workshop includes: remembering the terms of reference of the study, presenting and analyzing its content, verifying the conclusions. This is done by ensuring that the concerns of all stakeholders are taken into account. The Commissioner’s Chief of Staff in charge of the Department of Business Development, Mines, Energy and the Digital Economy (DEMEN), Maxime Thierry Kouamé, on behalf of the Commissioner and the President, confirmed his commitment to continue to support UEMOA CCR. . So that together, they can “consolidate regional integration in this context of globalization of economies and competition, in which marginal risks remain high, despite great efforts made by WAEMU member states to make their economies competitive. Convinced that this regional structural fund will provide effective support to businesses by supporting them, where necessary, to meet the challenges for sustainable growth and development, the representative of the CCR president of the UEMOA pointed out that the tips and suggestions that come out of it. these discussions will be necessary to finalize and improve the report of this study. Noé Nana, representative of the president of the CCI-BF, Mahamadi Savadogo, welcomed the establishment of this regional foundation fund. He also thanked UEMOA CCR for being able to deal with the governments of this great concern of supporting businesses in the event of an emergency in addition to the efforts already made. He hopes that the work will bring about resolutions to make this fund a reality.
