Support from the Swisslos Fund | Canton of Basel-Stadt

The government has approved a deficit guarantee from the Swisslos fund of CHF 45,000 for the theater production “Wenn’s Chaos zweimol lüttet” by Kulturhuus Häbse AG with the ensemble “Die Dritte – e goldigi Generation”. The dialect comedy is being performed by the newly founded ensemble with actors over 65 years of age under the direction of Daniel von Wattenwyl. The comedy is being performed in the Basel dialect at the Kulturhuus Häbse, as is tradition, and is set in a shared apartment of older people that experiences unexpected turbulence after it receives an unexpected addition to the family.

The government council has also approved a contribution of 45,000 francs for the program “Sali – Hallo – Servus”, which will take place in the Theater im Teufelhof between October 2024 and May 2025. 27 individual artists and groups from Germany, Austria and Switzerland will be given guest rights in the theater and will offer a rich and diverse contemporary cabaret.

The government council has also approved a contribution of CHF 42,000 for the Trigon-Film Foundation’s film culture mediation program in 2024. In the national evaluation and mediation of outstanding feature films and documentaries from Africa, Asia and Latin America, the Basel-based Trigon-Film Foundation focuses on the dialogue between filmmakers and audiences.

The government council has also approved a grant of CHF 35,000 to the Theater Arlecchino association for the theater production “Mary Poppins”. The play by Pamela L. Travers will be performed from October 19 to December 22, 2024 at the Theater Arlecchino on Walkeweg. It is a dialect version aimed primarily at children. Like the children cared for by Mary Poppins in the play, they can escape from everyday life in the theater, experience fantastic stories and thus gain new experiences. The play is one of five in-house productions by the theater for children and families in the 2024/2025 season.

The government council has also approved a contribution of 27,000 francs for the Basel Proms Association’s choir concert on November 2, 2024. The gala evening, modeled on the legendary London “Last Night of the Proms” at the Royal Albert Hall, will take place in the Stadtcasino under the artistic direction of soprano Beverly Worboys.

The government council has also approved a contribution of CHF 25,000 for the Orient Express Film Days and Cultural Weeks 2023, which will take place from November 12 to 17, 2024 in the former Kuechlin cinema, in the barracks and in the Kleinhüningen youth center. Under the motto “Diversity”, feature films, documentaries and short films will be shown with a focus on premiere films. The films show the complexity and contradictions of the coexistence of people with different religions, languages, ethnicities and worldviews. A supporting program with concerts, workshops and panel discussions complements the film screenings.

The Government has also provided the Swiss Music Encyclopedia Association with funding for its start-up phase in 2025/26. a grant of CHF 25,000 was approved. The Swiss Music Encyclopedia is the first digital encyclopedia that documents musical life in our country historically and scientifically across all genres and, thanks to its four languages ​​(DE; FR, IT, EN), makes it accessible to a broad national and global public. The planned encyclopedia addresses a broad public and also takes into account the many institutions in the canton of Basel-Stadt that are dedicated to researching the canton’s musical life or manage data relevant to music history (e.g. music collections, libraries, archives, etc.). In addition, local experts will be involved in writing the articles on the canton’s music history.
