US won’t let Moscow ‘bully’ European countries by threatening to starve them of gas
The United States cannot “stay away” from the conflict in Ukraine despite the cost of its military aid to kyiv in the face of “atrocities and aggression” from Russia, President Joe Biden assured Thursday during a a speech at the White House.
Earlier, a senior American official had indicated that the head of state would ask Congress to release an additional 33 billion dollars to respond to the war in Ukraine, including 20 billion in military aid.
The United States “does not attack” Russia but “helps Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression”, insisted Mr. Biden.
He also stressed that Vladimir Putin’s threats to use nuclear weapons are “irresponsible” and “it shows the sense of despair felt by Russia faced with its miserable failure in terms of its initial objectives.”
He also promised that Washington will not allow Moscow to “intimidate” European countries by threatening to deprive them of its energy resources, while the Russian group Gazprom on Wednesday suspended all gas deliveries to Bulgaria and Poland.
“We are working with other countries, such as Korea, Japan or Qatar, to help our European allies threatened by this Russian gas blackmail,” detailed Joe Biden.
