The Ukrainian postal and courier company Nova Poshta is starting its own cargo airline: Supernova Airlines should give it more independence.
The event is “a rapidly occurring, bright flash of a massive star at the end of its development by an explosion,” writes the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy about a supernova. “A large part of the star will be destroyed”. One can therefore doubt whether the term from astronomy is an ideal company name.
But this is exactly what a new freight airline from Ukraine has decided to do. It is called Supernova Airlines and is a subsidiary of the private postal and courier company Nova Poshta. The fleet will consist of two aircraft, the legal minimum in Ukraine.
A necessity for Nova Poshta
The two jets – according to the aviation data portal CH Aviation it is a Boeing 757-200 – will fly from Ukraine to the USA and China from mid-2022. Specifically, it goes from Boryspil Airport and Lviv Airport in the west of the country to New York. It is not yet clear which Chinese airport to fly to.
“Establishing our own airline is an operational necessity. We wanted to transport our parcels ourselves, without involving third parties, ”said Nova Poshta boss Yuriy Benevitsky to the Ukrainian media. So you can gain control and time. So far, Nova Poshta has relied on other providers such as Ukraine International Airlines, Turkish Airlines or Lufthansa.
Waiting for the AOC
The airline is still waiting for the AOC. She should arrive in April. After that, Nova Poshta has to hope that Supernova Airlines does not live up to its name.
