Jakarta –
Supermoon Phenomenon will occur in early July 2023. One of these celestial phenomena is interesting to observe because when the Supermoon occurs, the Moon will appear larger and brighter than average.
To find out more about the Supermoon phenomenon in July 2023, see the full explanation below:
Launch page Spacethe Supermoon phenomenon in July will occur on Monday, July 3 2023. The full moon that occurs in July is also known as Buck Moon.
Supermoons are the result of the Moon being closer to Earth during a full moon. Eclipse expert and retired NASA astrophysicist Fred Espanak said that during the July Buck Moon, the moon will be only 224,895 miles (361,934 kilometers) from Earth compared to an average distance of about 238,000 miles (382,900 km).
A supermoon can cause 30% of the moon’s brightness and a 14% increase in the moon’s disk as seen from Earth, but these differences are usually invisible to the naked eye unless one pays a lot of attention to the moon each night.
Causes of Supermoons
Supermoons occur because the Moon’s orbit around Earth is not a perfect circle; as a result of the influence of Earth’s gravity, the moon’s orbit is elliptical, looking like an elongated circle or oval. This means there are times in the moon’s 27-day orbit that it is closer to Earth and farther at other times. A supermoon occurs when the moon is in the full moon phase of its 29.5 day lunar cycle and is at perigee, the closest point to Earth in its orbit.
According to In the Sky from New York, the Full Buck Moon or Supermoon in July will rise at 07:10 EDT (23:10 GMT) on Monday (3/6/2023) and will set at 04:33 EDT (08:33 GMT) on Tuesday (4/6) /2023).
The 2023 Supermoon Phenomenon
After Supermoon in July, The next Supermoon will occur on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 in the form of a Full Sturgeon Moon. Espanak said that during this supermoon, the distance between Earth and its natural satellite will be 222,158 miles (357,530 km).
The second supermoon in August will occur in the form of a Blue Moon on August 30. This will be a very special event for moon watchers as it will get its closest look at the moon during this “summer supermoon” period, only 222,043 miles (357,344 km) away.
At the end of 2023, precisely on September 23, this Supermoon will end on September 28 with the emergence of the Full Corn Moon or Full Corn Moon. This occurs when the moon will be 224,657 miles (361,552 km) from Earth.
According to In the SkyThe Full Corn Moon will also mark the final Supermoon of 2023, with the next Supermoon slated for September 18, 2024. Next year there will only be two Supermoons, with the next after September occurring a month later on October 18, 2024.
