Supermodel sues pharmaceutical giant for Rp725 billion over fat

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Canadian supermodel Linda Evangelista filed a lawsuit worth US $ 50 million or equivalent to Rp725 billion to a pharmaceutical company for cosmetic procedures that have damaged her body. He underwent CoolSculpting, a body fat reduction procedure in 2015-2016.

Evangelista even said that she was ‘brutally’ damaged by a procedure performed by Zeltiq Aesthetics to the point where she couldn’t work.

“Today I am taking a major step to correct the mistakes I have suffered for five years. To my followers who wonder why I am not working while my colleagues’ careers are booming, the reason is that I was brutally ravaged by Zeltiq’s Coolsculpting procedure that performed opposite of what was promised,” Evangelista wrote in the post Instagramnya on Thursday (25/9).

He says he suffers from a rare side effect called Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH). Apart from the physical changes, he also said the side effects had left him feeling depression, deep sadness and self-hatred.

Evangelista filed a lawsuit Tuesday (21/9) in a New York court against Zeltiq Aesthetics. He said the company failed to warn customers about possible side effects.

The lawsuit says Evangelista underwent several fat reduction procedures on her thighs, abdomen, back, pelvis and chin in 2015 and 2016.

Meanwhile, Zeltiq Aesthetics, which is a unit of Allergan Aesthetics, did not comment on this incident.
