In some places near Bremen, thunderstorms caused heavy rain and many fire service operations. A supermarket roof also collapsed.
In the districts of Verden and Diepholz, heavy rain has led to flooded streets and cellars. In Syke, the roof of a supermarket collapsed in the Barrien district. The masses of water were able to penetrate easily because the market is currently being renovated. “The roof was open because of the expansion work,” said Lutz Budelmann, press spokesman for the district fire department in the Diepholz district. Around 20 people left the store immediately and there were no injuries.
The market was closed and a structural engineer had to be called in. “It was a thunderstorm with heavy rain, hundreds of liters of water came down,” explained the spokesman. According to the “Kreiszeitung” it was a Netto market.
There were about 20 operations in Weyhe, including because of a flooded railway underpass. Not far from Weyhe, a tree fell on parked cars, a police spokesman said. In the Twistringen area, a tree fell on a moving car, but no one was injured.
