Risk of containing Norovirus

All of these oysters have been recalled on suspicion of containing Norovirus.

Second ANSI extension(the National Agency for Food, Environment and Occupational Health and Safety), Noroviruses (NoV) are the main causes of aqueous gastroenteritisa disease that refers to inflammation of the stomach and intestines.

Then they end up in the community wastewater. According to ANSES, “they are very resistant and persist even after release into the environment, causing water contamination.

ANSES indicates that the incubation time ranges from 10 to 50 hours. Suddenly vomiting, nausea and/or diarrhea appear. These symptoms are sometimes associated with “abdominal cramps, malaise, anorexia, fever (mild reported in less than 50% of cases), chills, body aches and headache”.

The symptoms last from two to three days, but can reach six days in frail subjects (elderly, small children).

For all these reasons, Rappel-Conso.gouv.fr recommends not consuming the products in question and returning them to the point of sale. The repayment is expected until January 19, 2022.

If they’ve been consumed, however, it’s too late.
