Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the plumber’s next 2D game, received several details this Thursday (31). With a dedicated Direct, Nintendo revealed the game’s online multiplayer, in which several players will be able to play stages simultaneously.
Other elements shown in the presentation are new unexpected effect powers, open areas on the map that can be played in whichever order you prefer, and early details of the story. Check out all the news below.
Story and gameplay
In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the plumber’s gang visits the Flower Kingdom at Prince Florian’s invitation. However, the reception is interrupted by Bowser, who starts to cause discord by taking the form of a castle by the power of the mysterious Wonder Flower.
In all, Flower Kingdom will have seven areas to explore – and the news is for the “open areas” available on the map. Upon reaching them, the player will have access to a list of phases and activities, which can be played in any order they prefer.
In addition to Mario, it will be possible to play with Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad and Toadette. The characters offer no gameplay difference – with the exception of Yoshi and Nabbit, who only take damage when falling into an abyss. That is, the two correspond to the “easy mode” of the game.
new powers
Wonder will introduce a list of unusual effect powers. Shown earlier, the elephant power-up will be usable not only by Mario, but also by Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad and Toadette – resulting in adorable versions of the characters.
In elephant mode, you can use your horn to attack farther, cross blocks and chasms, and even carry water in your horn. Another power shown, “Drill”, allows Mario and his friends to drill through surfaces and enemies made of stone.
Two powers can be reserved by the player at the same time, allowing the player to switch between power-ups at any time.
Wonder Effect
A key new addition to the experience is the Wonder Flower which, when touched, causes unexpected transformations in the level, causing a horde of bubbles, 2D perspective changes, outer space gameplay and more. The effect is only interrupted when acquiring a Wonder Seed.
Finally, there are the badges (“emblems”, in free translation), which will allow you to customize the gameplay according to the player’s preferences. For example, with badges equipped, it’s possible to enhance jumps and make it possible for your character to glide across the stage – adding more mobility to side scrolling.
Co-op, multiplayer online e novo Switch OLED
As usual, Mario Wonder will include local co-op for up to four players. Companions who die before their time are turned into ghosts, which, for a limited time, can be rescued and brought back into action.
The same logic will apply to online multiplayer. In it, it will be possible to see and interact with other players in real time, being able to rescue them and help them in difficult stretches. In addition, it will be possible to create rooms and race against friends in stages and boss battles.
Finally, it was revealed that a new model of the Nintendo Switch OLED will hit stores on October 6th. The version, which has a red finish and Mario elements, predates the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder. There is still no information if the console will arrive in Brazil.
