Lots of fan service, lots of heart and fantastic animations: Super Mario Bros. is probably the film that many Nintendo disciples were hoping for. This level of quality and attention to detail pays off as the film breaks record after record.
Super Mario is and remains a cult. Nothing has changed since the first game with the plumber in 1985. The Super Mario Bros. movie should push the brand’s popularity even further, even if the reviews have been a bit mixed at times. But we liked the film extremely well, provided that you are a fan of the brand or have a heart for animated films in your own chest.

We don’t seem to be the only ones having fun at the movies. At least that’s what the hard numbers suggest, Super Mario Bros. is hugely successful. Shortly after launch, it was announced that it was the biggest launch of an animated film of all time. He flushed a whopping 377 million US dollars into the coffers in the first few days and thus beat the previous record holder, Frozen 2, by far.
As the American Variety now announces, the strip has broken the next record. It has since grown into the most successful video game adaptation of all time. Over 500 million US dollars were exchanged for cinema tickets, 260 million of them in America. This easily surpasses the previous record holder, the Warcraft film. This was the top so far with 439 million US dollars.
In addition, Super Mario Bros. marks the most successful film of 2023 so far. However, it is questionable how long he can secure these titles. The competition doesn’t sleep and Marvel alone has some hot irons in the business.
Nevertheless, Nintendo and Illumination should be more than satisfied with the success of their film. After the long production time and the trauma of the 1993 strip, these numbers come in handy.
