‘Super League needs to be played, but don’t invite English clubs’

Jakarta

CEO Monza Adriano Galliani evaluate European Super League need to be held to increase the competitiveness of European clubs. However, according to him, Premier League clubs do not need to be invited.

Galliani’s remarks stem from the fact that the Premier League is currently the football competition with the highest broadcasting rights value at the moment. The Athletic put the figure at £5 billion for 2022-2025, domestic only.

That number is far above other big leagues in Europe such as Spain, Italy, Germany, France. Take the example of the Spanish League, they managed to sell broadcast rights for 4.95 billion Euros, but for 5 years (2022-2027).

If the situation continues like that, the financial strength of Premier League clubs will be difficult to compete with other countries in Europe. Despite the fact that achievements on the field are not always the case, the large amount of money circulating in England makes it easier for star players to be persuaded to move.

Galliani feels the European Super League (European Super League) needs to be created to compete with English clubs. With abundant sponsorship funds, the hope is that mainland European clubs can slowly have the same financial strength.

“(The Super League) can be a solution, but there is no need for English clubs to be present,” Galliani told Tuttosport, quoted by Marca.

“Brexit must also apply to football. Later it will be a true European club tournament, without the presence of the English people.”

“The 20 Premier League clubs now have four times more revenue than the 20 clubs in Serie A,” explained the former AC Milan CEO.
