After three victories in a row, Toulouse Olympique welcomed Salford with full confidence during this 20th day of the Super League.
The Toulousains start this important meeting against Salford in the best possible way. After a penalty obtained, the TO obtains the first opportunity of the match and is realistic. Mathieu Jussaume opens the Olympians counter, well served by Tony Gigot. Chris Hankinson converts and Toulouse leads 6-0 from the 3rd minute.
The two teams try to make the difference but make many hand faults and the defenses hold the shock. In the 20th minute, the Toulousains are close to scoring following a stroke of genius from Corey Norman who manages to hit a low key while being belted but Joe Bretherton is unable to recover the ball. Salford is in turn dangerous and finds the fault by Joe Burgess who wins his aerial duel, it is transformed by Marc Sneyd and the Red Devils come back to height (6-6).
As we enter the last 5 minutes, Tony Gigot has the good idea to pass a drop and the TO takes the lead 7-6. But it’s not over in this first period. Olly Ashall-Bott plays with the English defense thanks to his thunderous supports and serves Tony Gigot who is taken back a few meters from the in-goal by Joe Burgess who makes a saving spoon. In the process, the Toulousains obtain a penalty for a high tackle. Chris Hankinson adds two points and Toulouse Olympique return to the locker room with a slight advantage, 9-6.
The TO cracks in the second half
Salford started the second half better and put pressure on the TO. The Olympian defense held out for several minutes before breaking down in the 50th minute. Ken Sio finds the fault in the corner following a pass from Ryan Brierley. Sneyd does not convert but the English are ahead, 9-10. Immediate response from Toulouse thanks to a new penalty from Chris Hankinson (11-10). But the crossover continues and this devil of Joe Burgess scores twice. This time, Marc Sneyd set the sights and Salford took a 5-point lead on the hour mark (11-16).
The English striker adds two points on penalty and the Red Devils take a little more off, 11-18. Nothing was going well for the Olympians who suffered a new try by Ken Sio, still in the corner. Sneyd converts, 11-24 and there are just over 15 minutes to play. Toulouse throw their last strength and put pressure on the defense of Salford but the English hold on. Nothing is scored in this match, Toulouse Olympique loses 11-24 and misses a good opportunity to distance themselves from Wakefield who play at St Helens tomorrow. Salford does the right thing and climbs to 6th place thanks to this victory.
