We regret to announce that the wrestler and wrestling personality Melissa Coates, better known as “Super Genie”, has died a few days after turning 50 years of age. The worker had been in poor health for several months, with serious arterial obstruction problems that even cost her the amputation of one of her legs.
The news was initially confirmed by Cauliflower Alley Club, the organization that collaborated with family and friends of Coates to raise funds. “All of us here at CAC are very saddened by the passing of Melissa Coates,” the statement read on Twitter. “We send our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and supporters. We hope he has found peace of mind in the memories of his most difficult moments. RIP Melissa.”
Melissa Coates began her career in 2002, being one of the students of the renowned Killer Kowalski. The fighter would pass a nearly two-year stint at Ohio Valley Wrestling, appearing in WWE on very few occasions. Later, he would work in multiple independent companies. In Great Championship Wrestling, Melissa managed to lift the NWA / GCW Women’s Championship for the only time in his career.
Her appearances as a competitor were less and less from 2012. It wasn’t until a couple of years later that her romance with Sabu would lead her to take on the role of “Super Genie”, with whom she would be known as the ECW veteran’s companion until her last public appearances.
The SoloWrestling team extends its condolences to the family, friends and close friends of Melissa Coates “Super Genie”.
