Penalty kicks decided about the trophy. The competitors performed them flawlessly for a long time. In the end, Paweł Wszołek made a mistake, whose shot was saved by Lukaš Hroššo. Cracovia players flawlessly performed elevens and thus won the Super Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
A strange match
They won one of the strangest editions of this competition. Due to the departure for the national team camps, both teams joined the match very weakened. In addition, Legia was led by his assistant Marek Saganowski, replacing Czesław Michniewicz. Of course, the line-up was composed of the first coach of the Warsaw team, who did not surprise anything. Another thing was that his options for choosing eleven were quite limited, because many players are also missing due to injuries. Compared to the last game of his team, the infamous clash with Qarabag (0: 3) made six changes.
On the other hand, the guest coach, Michał Prukaj, has replaced five players, comparing his team’s ranking with the match in the league against Śląsk Wrocław (1: 3). Bosnian midfielder Damir Sadiković, acquired in the recently closed transfer window from Željezničar Sarajevo, made his debut on the team.
Fans against the president
The match began with a delay, as Legia fans protested against the club’s early dropout from the European cups. Their anger focused on the club’s president and owner, Dariusz Mioduski. – Where is this Legia? Where are the cups? – fans asked. “You don’t know it, Mioduski you don’t know it.” They also hung a banner “We want a new president”.
After the first half, they could be disappointed. Legia played poorly again, but Cracovia was not better. Both teams created not very clear goal situations.
And if Legia had little trouble, they lost defender Mateusz Wieteska, who recovered from an injury. His place was taken by Inaki Astiz, who accompanied another veteran Igor Levchuk in the center of the defense. And behind their backs there was 37-year-old goalkeeper Radosław Cierzniak, who replaced Artur Boruc. It was his first appearance this season.
After the break, the hosts got down to work harder. Their actions were driven by the best on the pitch, Luquinhas, who unexpectedly did not appear in the first team in the match against Qarabag.
Paweł Wszołek also started to play better. At the beginning of the second part of the game, after Bartosz Kapustka’s pass, he found a good opportunity, but the winger of the Polish champions made a slight mistake. And Kapustka, incidentally, for the first time playing against his former club, soon left the pitch with an injury.
Legia finally scored, Tomaš Pekhart hit the net, but he was offside and judge Wojciech Myć, who replaced at the last minute Mariusz Złotka, previously appointed to lead this match, rightly did not recognize the goal.
Goal was scored only in the penalty series.
