11:00 p.m .: Two teams with a long dry spell
The chiefs against the 49ers. Two teams with a great history – and two teams that have had great success for a while.
Because the Chiefs’ only Super Bowl victory was 50 (!) Years ago: In 1969, in Super Bowl IV, there was a sensational 23: 7 against the Minnesota Vikings. Since then, the team has been waiting for another final. Only since the arrival of star quarterback Patrick Mahomes in 2017 did things go up again permanently. Are the chiefs crowning their rise now?
The 49ers’ dry spell didn’t last that long – and has been going on for over a quarter of a century. The Niners are one of the most successful and traditional teams, had their greatest time in the 80s when the great quarterback Joe Montana led the club to four Super Bowl victories (1981, 1984, 1988, 1989) and later not quite so great successor Steve Young shared another success (1994). The last final participation: 2012 – at that time there was a 31:34 against the Baltimore Ravens.
