Sky phenomenon Super Blue Moon will greet the night sky at the end of August. Check out the schedule.

Super Blue Moon or Blue Moon is the second Super Moon (Supermoon) phenomenon that occurred this August. Previously, the Sturgeon Supermoon phenomenon appeared first on August 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Super Blue Moon will occur between August 30-31. Indonesia will also receive a phenomenon this month.

The Blue Moon at the end of August will be the biggest and brightest month of the year. This moon will rise on the evening of August 30 US time and can be seen in the east after sunset, citing SpaceThursday (24/8).

The United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) explains that this moon phase is not just an ordinary full moon, but also a Blue Moon, which means the third full moon in a season that has four full moons.

This Blue Moon is also a Supermoon, which means it coincides with perigee, the point in the moon’s orbit that is closest to Earth. When this phenomenon occurs, the distance from the Moon to Earth is about 357,344 kilometers.

To observers on Earth, the Moon will appear slightly larger than normal, but only about 7 percent larger. To the unaided naked eye, this difference in size may not be visible.

The August 2023 Blue Moon will also be accompanied by a special guest in the sky: Saturn.

The ringed gas giant planet will go through a period of opposition in a few more days, when it is directly opposite the Sun as seen from Earth, so it will appear very bright in the night sky.

Blue Moons are relatively frequent, astronomically, every two to three years. The last Blue Moon was in August 2021, and the next Blue Moon is expected to be in August 2024.

Does it really glow blue?

Unfortunately no literally blue. The term “blue moon” dates back at least 400 years from current searches.

A Canadian folklore storyteller, Philip Hiscokc, suggested this saying which means that something is odd and will never happen.
