“This is a normal phenomenon, people in all regions of Indonesia can see the Super Blood Moon. That is, the moon looks bigger and redder due to the habituation of sunlight by the earth’s atmosphere,” he explained, Thursday (20/5/2021).

He explained that in the Bandung area the total lunar eclipse will begin at 15:47 WIB. But at that time the moon had not yet risen. So people have to wait for the moon to rise at 17:35 WIB to be able to see the eclipse.

The total lunar eclipse will begin at 18:11 WIB with the peak of the eclipse will occur at 18:18 WIB. The totality phase will last for about 14 minutes until then the whole series of eclipses will end at 20:49 WIB. The impact given from the phenomenon of the Total Lunar Eclipse on natural conditions is the occurrence of tidal currents in the sea.

To observe this astronomical phenomenon, the Bosscha Observatory provides a virtual night observation program for the public. Given that direct observation cannot be made of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The public can participate in watching the total lunar eclipse observation via the Bosscha YouTube channel starting at 17:00 WIB.

“What is interesting is that this lunar eclipse can be witnessed in all regions of Indonesia and can be observed by the eye, there is no need to use special optical tools,” he concluded.
