An upload on Facebook had caused a stir some time ago regarding the news of the sun rising from the west. Reportedly things are getting closer to Earth doomsday.
The claim was uploaded in Thai and also appears in an English version. Instead of coming from the east, it is said that the Sun appears from the west because the Earth rotates in the opposite direction.
Earth is said to be in a reversal of the magnetic field. “Earth will rotate in the opposite direction causing the Sun to appear from the west side. Researchers believe we are moving towards a magnetic field reversal that will mark the end of humanity and near the end of the world,” the post reads.
To support the contents of the information, NASA also wrote that claiming the possibility. However, the United States (US) space agency denied the upload.
According to Bettina Inclan, NASA’s Associate Administrator for Communications, it and other organizations never made that prediction.
“Neither NASA nor any other scientific organization predicts it will rise from the west,” he said.
Inclan said the reversal of the magnetic field is a real phenomenon and has happened before. Even a number of world scientists are also studying it.
“The reversal of the magnetic field is indeed a real phenomenon that has occurred several times in the past and scientists around the world are studying it, but the statement that this makes the Earth rotate in the opposite direction which causes the Sun to rise from the west is wrong,” he explained.
Sunrise from the West on Planet Venus
According to NASA, the sun rises from the west and sets in the east on Venus. This happens because Venus rotates on its axis backwards.
Venus rotates very slowly. It takes about 243 Earth days for one rotation. It takes 225 Earth days for Venus to orbit the Sun. That means a day on Venus is slightly longer than a year on Venus.
The impact of the length of the day and year is similar, a day on Venus is not like a day on Earth. On Earth, the Sun rises and sets once every day. on Venus the sun rises every 117 Earth days. This means that the Sun only rises twice a year on Venus.
Venus was the first planet to be explored by a spacecraft. NASA successfully landed there using Mariner 2 on December 14, 1962. However, the exploration did not last long due to the extreme heat and heavy pressure.
