Sunny Father’s Day in the offing for NY/NJ after showers and thunderstorms – NBC New York (47)

The forecast for New York and New Jersey projects a glorious sunny weekend just right for Father’s Day celebrations. However, our region will see a bout of severe weather first.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Thursday night through Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters expect temperatures in the 90s through Friday.

Then temperatures will drop this weekend, with mostly clear skies and highs in the 70s on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Before then, Thursday afternoon should remain relatively quiet, the agency says. But another round of showers and thunderstorms will roll through our area Thursday night, potentially producing damaging winds and localized flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist through late Thursday night, primarily after 11 p.m., according to the forecast. Wind gusts could reach up to 23 mph, according to the forecast.
