Sunny Beach: A New Era of Tourism Advancement
Sunny Beach,Bulgaria’s premier coastal resort,is gearing up for a transformative year. With the first tourists expected to arrive by Easter on April 20, the resort is already buzzing with activity. Romanians and Bulgarians are set to kick off the season, followed by Israeli tourists if the situation in Tel Aviv permits.
The western part of the complex is currently bustling with Ukrainian visitors, making the resort lively even during the off-season. Hoteliers note that “there is virtually no winter hear,” highlighting the year-round appeal of Sunny Beach.
A Vision for the Future
Sunny Beach is not just resting on its laurels. The resort is exploring innovative ways to diversify its tourism offerings. One of the most exciting proposals is the development of spa tourism. Veselin Nalbantov, a hotelier and deputy chairman of BHRA, revealed that mineral water lies about 1,000 meters beneath the resort. “it should be used,” he emphasized, adding that discussions are already underway with the joint-stock company managing the resort and the Water Supply and Sewerage Company to study geothermal sources.
Nalbantov’s vision is shared by his colleagues, who believe Sunny Beach has the potential to become a ”huge spa destination.” As the “capital of Bulgarian tourism,” the resort is well-positioned to lead this new wave of development.
Cultural and Past Tourism
In addition to spa tourism, sunny Beach is looking to tap into its rich cultural and historical heritage. Just a stone’s throw away lies Nessebar, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its ancient churches and artifacts. Few know that the legendary fabulist Aesop was born here.
“We are also considering making a bust monument of the legendary fabulist Aesop, who lived around 620-560 BC. Tourists from all over the world come here, and everyone knows who he is. I hope these new ideas for the resort will be implemented,” Nalbantov commented.
A Strong Season Ahead in Burgas
The optimism extends beyond Sunny beach to the nearby city of Burgas. St. Anastasia Island, a favorite tourist destination, is expected to attract visitors from around the globe this year. Cruises to the island will begin by easter, weather permitting, with plans for a fourth evening course to enhance the experience.
Pavlin Dimitrov, the island’s manager, shared that the cultural program, including concerts, performances, and theater productions, will be finalized by the end of February.
