Are you going for a long weekend somewhere in our country this Ascension weekend? Then you can at least leave the umbrella at home! You can read if you can wear shorts too in this long weekend weather report!
The lowest temperature will be reached on Wednesday this week. As cloud areas dominate for a long time, today’s maximum temperature is between 14 and 18 degrees. That’s certainly not cold, but it’s a little warmer than the 16 to 19 degrees that are typical for this time of year. During the evening the sun may get a little more space. You can read all about the weather this Wednesday in our comprehensive weather report.
Rising temperature
On Ascension Day the temperature is slightly higher. It will finally be 16 degrees in the coastal areas and 18-20 degrees inland. However, it will not be sunny. The day starts a bit foggy in the area, but after sunrise this clears up in many places. Only the coastal areas can tolerate it well into the morning.
Some clouds and cumulus clouds are spread across the country, with most clouds reserved for the interior. However, there is no rain and with very little wind it is great weather to do something active outside. However, the weather on the beaches can be disappointing. Because of the wind from the sea, it can stay foggy on the beaches and then it’s only 14 degrees.
The temperature increase continues in the following days. It will be 18 to 22 degrees on Friday and it will be even warmer next week with 20-23 degrees on Saturday. On Sunday, Mother’s Day, thermometers in the southeast can show summer values of 25 degrees. In other places it is 22-24 degrees. Rain is not expected on any day and the weather is dominated by the sun. At most, sometimes some grass clouds or a few cumulus clouds pass by. All in all, amazing opportunities for vacationers in their own country!
Sometimes much fresher by the sea!
During the Ascension long weekend, the areas near the sea and the Wadden Islands are always a popular destination. It’s also a good place to be these days, as it’s still dry with big sunny spells on the beaches from Friday. However, it is necessary to take into account that the temperature here is much lower than inland, due to the north sea wind. It will be 18 degrees on the western beaches on Friday, but as soon as the sea breeze picks up it can cool down to 14 degrees. It will be 15-17 degrees on the Wadden.
It could also reach 20 degrees in the western coastal areas on Saturday, but these values will probably be reached at the beginning of the evening. During the evening there is a good chance that it will be a sea breeze rises. This can cause it to cool down a lot. So it’s a good idea to bring a jacket to be on the safe side when you go out. There will be moderate easterly winds on Sunday with a slight chance of sea breezes. It is probably the most beautiful beach day with a maximum temperature of 22-24 degrees.
Hurry up!
The strength of the Sun is definitely something to watch out for this long Ascension weekend. Throughout the country there is solar force 5 every day and on Friday the sun can reach solar force 6 in a large part of the country. That’s the first time this year so definitely something to watch out for. Unprotected skin can burn within 15-30 minutes. The sun is brightest in the middle of the day, between 11 am and 4 pm. You can also shoot in the hour before and after, but faster.
