Former legendary player Sunil Gavaskar ridiculed the batting performance of the Indian team which collapsed in front of Australia in the World Test Championship final. The Aussies crushed India by 209 runs in the final at the Oval. Chasing a target of 444 runs, India were bowled out for 234 runs in the second innings.
India started the fifth day at 164 for the loss of three wickets while adding 70 more runs on the scoreboard and threw away the remaining seven wickets. India suffered a setback in the second innings when Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, who gave hope, were dismissed quickly.
Kohli was dismissed by Steve Smith caught by Scott Boland. Kohli scored 49 runs off 78 balls. Kohli’s shot was caught by Smith diving at second slip. The former Indian skipper also questioned Kohli’s move to play such a shot at a crucial stage.
Gavaskar accused India’s batting of collapsing and that they could not even take the match to the second session. ‘That was a bad shot; It was a normal shot. You ask me how he did it. You have to ask Kohli. What a shot he played. How are you going to score a century if you play a shot like that?’ Gavaskar said.
India collapsed in batting. Many were getting out by playing unnecessary shots. Gavaskar also said that India could not hold a single session with that batting line-up.
