SEOUL, Oct. 24 (Yonhap) – United States Special Representative for North Korea Sung Kim reiterated that Washington will continue to cooperate with Seoul to develop “different ideas and initiatives to engage North Korea , including the declaration of the end of the Korean War (1950-1953) ”.

After arriving in Seoul yesterday, Kim met her South Korean counterpart Noh Kyu-duk this morning at the Lotte Hotel for a closed-door meeting. As part of this interview, Sung Kim said he hoped to cooperate with Noh while claiming to share the same goal on the issue of the Korean Peninsula.

He also reiterated that the United States is ready to meet North Korea unconditionally and that it has no intention of hostility against it by asking for a positive response from the North.

For his part, Noh said he had had “an in-depth discussion on the proposal to declare the end of the Korean War within the framework of an extension of the meeting in Washington”. “The American government hopes that the North will respond quickly to the call for dialogue launched by the various bodies,” he added.

“South Korea and the United States have agreed to meet very soon to have an additional discussion taking into account the follow-up to today’s dialogue,” Noh said.

Seoul’s chief nuclear envoy and his American and Japanese counterparts Sung Kim and Takehiro Funakoshi had a trilateral meeting in Washington on October 18 and 19 to discuss a common strategy towards the North Korean regime.
