Her performance echoed her previous successes, showcasing her exceptional speed and tactical prowess.Sundling’s powerful final push on the last hill left her competitors in the dust, solidifying her position as a top contender.
Following her win, Sundling shared her thoughts, stating, “It feels surprisingly good,” in a post-race interview. She added, “I can go as I want, there is nothing I would really like to do differently.”
The women’s competition saw a strong Swedish showing initially, with four athletes starting the prologue. Sundling Shines, ogden Nearly Triumphs: Analyzing the Latest Cross-Country World Cup
Mark Peterson,Senior Editor: Welcome back to World Today News. With me today is Bjorn Larsson, former Swedish national team cross-country skier and current commentator for SVT Sport.
Bjorn, another exciting weekend of cross-country action. Jonna Sundling continued her seemingly effortless dominance with another victory. What’s your take on her performance and current form?
Bjorn Larsson: Mark, it’s simply remarkable what Jonna is doing. She isn’t just winning; she’s making it look easy. That final push on the last hill was a statement, pure power and strength. It’s clear she’s in top form and the favorite again for the overall World Cup title.
Mark Peterson: That’s excellent news for Swedish fans. But it was also a tough weekend for the Swedish women’s team overall. Only two made it to the finals, and Emma Ribom had an unfortunate fall. How concerning is that decline in depth?
Bjorn Larsson: It’s definitely concerning. While Sundling is a rockstar, having multiple contenders is key for any country aiming for team success. The illness that affected the team adding further explanations to the results. But Ribom’s fall was just bad luck. Hopefully, it’s a minor setback, and she’ll bounce back stronger.
Mark Peterson: Shifting gears to the men’s side, Ben Ogden comes tantalizingly close to finishing first. What impressed you most about his performance?
Bjorn Larsson: That near win was a huge moment for Ben and American cross-country skiing. He showed incredible grit and determination, battling Klebo right to the finish line. To come within a tenth of a second of Klebo, who is arguably the best in the world right now, is extraordinary. It’s very encouraging for the future of U.S cross-country
Mark Peterson: Edvin Anger led the Swedish men, but he seemed a bit disappointed with his seventh-place finish. What’s your interpretation of his comments about lacking that “third gear”?
Bjorn Larsson: Edvin is a talented skier, no doubt, but he’s still searching for that extra edge. Sometimes, you need that extra burst of speed, that explosive power,to compete with the very best.He clearly has the talent; he just needs to find a way to unlock that final gear consistently.
Mark peterson: Looking ahead, what are the storylines you’ll be watching in the next World Cup races?
Bjorn Larsson: Can anyone challenge Sundling? Ogdan’s form a promising sign. Can the other American skiers step up? And will Anger find that elusive “third gear”? These are just some of the questions that will make the coming weeks even more exciting.
Mark Peterson: Thanks for your insights, Bjorn. Always a pleasure to have your expertise.
Bjorn Larsson: My pleasure, Mark. Thanks for having me.
