At the most recent “Sunday Movies” event at the Ketscher Kino Central, it was immediately noticeable that 80 percent of the guests were children and the majority of them had a migrant background. “And that is exactly one of the goals of the project, to create a safe space in which everyone is respected, regardless of their origin, skin color or who they love,” said Janine Marielle Ruch when introducing the event.

In keeping with the film “Mama Muh and the Big Wide World”, Irnis Kubat, who originally came to Germany from Bosnia, was invited as an interview guest. Kubat, a trained math and computer science teacher, began by talking about his arrival in Germany, how his job was not recognized and how he delivered packages. “That’s how I learned German and I’m very grateful for it.”

When Janine Marielle Ruch asked him about his current job, he explained to the audience in a child-friendly way that he was a “personal brand” photographer and what a podcast is. “People talk about important topics and the listener gets intensive insights into a topic.”

When it came to career aspirations, all the children’s hands shot up. From princess to bus driver, policeman, nurse, veterinarian, doctor or “firefighter’s wife”, everything was there.
