The summit of 18 July between consumer associations and Alessandro Santoliquidonominated by Ivass as Commissioner for the extraordinary management of Eurovita (read the related news here)substantially reiterated what IVASS has already illustrated on the agreement concluded on 30 June last.
It can be read in a note by add published on the site adiconsum.it, in which it is recalled that to protect the approximately 400,000 policyholders, the agreement provides for the establishment of a new company (newco) by the 5 companies that will have to take over the Eurovita customer portfolio, i.e. Intesa Sanpaolo, Poste Vita, Generali, Unipol and Allianz Italia. In addition to the aforementioned companies. Not only. The many banks that distributed the policies are also involved. In an initial phase, the newco will take over the Eurovita policy portfolio. The transfer of the customer portfolio to the 5 companies will take place in about 18-24 months. Coming to the times, the newco is to be incorporated by the end of July. The release of the redemptions is instead scheduled for next October 31st, but work is being done to bring it forward.
Here are the three requests from Adiconsum and the other associations
The same requests already made to IVASS were also made to Commissioner Santoliquido, namely: to set up a guarantee fund to safeguard policyholders quickly, should similar cases recur, to find ad hoc solutions for citizens of Emilia Romagna affected by the flood and to guarantee the operation of the platform for unit-linked holders.
He was also present at the meeting with the extraordinary commissioner Ivan Giacomellinational secretary of the association Codes who explains: “First of all we want to underline the willingness shown by Commissioner Santoliquido. It doesn’t often happen that we have the opportunity to openly and directly discuss such delicate issues and we therefore want to highlight it. It was an important meeting in which various aspects were addressed. We recorded the reassurances of the Commissioner for consumers, that they shouldn’t be in danger”.
For Giacomelli, “however, the concern for one aspect remains. We are referring to financial policies, those of the so-called Branch III. We hope that there are no nasty surprises for customers and that what emerges is confirmed by the facts, ie by the action of the NewCo. Of course we will continue to monitor the matter. The deadline for the freeze on redemptions has been extended to October 31, but the situation is expected to resolve sooner. The advice is to stay updated to be ready to intervene when there is news”.
