LEIPZIG. For most students in Saxony it means “back to the campus”. Almost all universities in the state are planning to hold the summer semester in attendance.
After two predominantly digital Corona years, many universities in Saxony are planning to hold the summer semester again almost exclusively in attendance. «Come back to Leipzig and experience student life in the lecture halls, seminar rooms, libraries, canteens and university sports! Everything will take place face-to-face again, »said Prof. Thomas Hofsäss, Prorector for Education and International Affairs at the University of Leipzig, on request. The faculties can decide whether they also offer digital or hybrid courses for courses.
At the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, too, teaching in the 2022 summer semester will be predominantly face-to-face. An exception are courses in the first two semesters in international master’s courses, as the TU announced on request. These are increasingly being conducted online or in hybrid form, since it is not so easy for students from abroad to come to Freiberg due to missing or delayed visa applications. Face-to-face events are also held for German students in international degree programs.
The TU Dresden, on the other hand, does not make any central specifications as to whether teaching is to be held in person or digitally, said the Vice President Education, Prof. Michael Kobel. “However, we follow the principle of “as much presence as possible” in order to enable more exchange and encounters on campus”. A good three quarters of the lectures will be held analog, 15 percent hybrid and eight percent digital. However, the lecture halls are only used to 50 percent capacity.
The campus of Chemnitz University of Technology will be busier again in the 2022 summer semester. More than 60 percent of all courses take place in hybrid attendance or attendance, as a spokesman announced. The Rectorate and crisis management team at Chemnitz University of Technology would have recommended teaching in hybrid attendance in particular in order to increasingly enable encounters and, above all, teaching and studying in attendance again. Students and employees should continue to be protected as best as possible.
The universities only disagree on the mask requirement. In Freiberg, the FFP2 mask requirement applies as a protective measure for face-to-face events in the summer semester. In Dresden, on the other hand, there is only an urgent recommendation to wear an FFP2 mask and a request to be tested regularly.
In Leipzig, wearing an FFP2 mask is mandatory in the corridors, stairwells, elevators and toilets. At least medical mouth and nose protection must be worn in classrooms and at the reading desks in the libraries. Individual specifications apply to laboratories, practical training rooms and sports halls. (dpa)
