Vienna’s Education City Councilor Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) is in favor of a partial obligation for the school summer courses, reports the news magazine “Profil”. This should affect schoolchildren who would not be able to advance because of a fiver.

Voluntary offers such as the summer school are not currently accepted by these children and young people, said Wiederkehr in an interview with “Profil”. A legal basis would be required for a general obligation.
Class advancement can be linked to summer school attendance
However, in some cases it would already be possible to link a visit to a summer offer with the right to move up to the next class, Wiederkehr argued. In the case of pupils with a single five in their report card, but for whom the class conference refuses to advance, the summer course could be evaluated as an “expected positive development in the performance profile”.
“That would mean that successful participation enables advancement to the next school level,” said the City Councilor for Education in the interview: “Commit yourself to participate and make it up the ladder!”
FPÖ: “Are open to it”
The Viennese Freedom Party commented positively on the return on Saturday: “We are open to it and are happy to discuss it,” said the Viennese FPÖ club chairman and education spokesman Maximilian Krauss in a broadcast. However, he sees “mass immigration and the unclaimed integration services” as the root of the problem, and this is where the basic problem must be recognized.
