Summer school in Delmenhorst is being prepared

Delmenhorst

Preparations for a summer school are underway in the city administration so that students can close corona-related learning gaps during the holidays. First City Councilor Markus Pragal made this clear recently at the meeting of the school committee. The background to this is the “catching up after Corona” action program launched by the federal government with one billion euros for funding and tutoring. “Experience has shown that around one percent of this arrives in Delmenhorst, in this case one million euros,” said Pragal. So far, however, there has been no funding guideline from the state. The concrete implementation could therefore not be worked on yet.

“We are in talks with the state government. According to the current status, the guideline will not be ready before the summer vacation ”, reported Pragal. It is questionable whether the municipalities have to submit funding applications themselves. Even with the conception of the summer school itself, essential cornerstones are still pending.

Already during the Easter holidays, pupils at the adult education center (VHS) Delmenhorst were able to get remedial lessons in German and math. The lessons were financed from funds from the federal education and participation package. The VHS should also play a central role for the summer school. The city is also in talks with private sponsors in order to be able to offer as many places as possible.

Silke Fischer, chairwoman of the City Parents’ Council, formulated a clear demand: “The summer school must be geared towards all age groups and school types.” High school students would not get along better with home schooling per se. SPD councilor Andrea Lotsios supported this statement. The school committee followed your request to the administration to develop a concept for the summer school at an early stage with a large majority.
