The Wien Holding museums offer great summer highlights for children: Join “Mozart’s Musical Club” in the Mozarthaus Vienna, go on a musical journey of discovery in the Haus der Musik or attend exciting workshops in the JMW or the Kunst Haus Wien.

Kunst Haus Wien: Cool workshops for children

With the CLOSE/D project, the Kunst Haus Wien, which is closed for modernization work, has been in dialogue with its neighborhood and the city since June 28th. In and around the Community Center TRÖSCH III, a free program of events invites you to take part. From July 11, 2023, every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. during the summer holidays, an upcycling workshop and art tour for children from 8 to 13 years will be held: “Green City & Herb Pot” The journey of discovery leads to works of art and a research laboratory in front of the museum – Finally, herb pots are made from recycled beverage packaging and filled with soil and organic herb and flower seeds.

At the workshop “The City of the Future” for children from 6 to 12 years, the DIY creative corner of TRÖSCH III goes on tour: The climate collages tie in with the idea and the project of the same name by the artist Marie Vermont. A creative process and playful reflection on it how animals and people live together in the city of the future. How do people deal with natural resources such as drinking water, soil or wood? Glue and scissors meet the artist’s humorous templates and colorful magazines of all kinds!

Summer fun at the Jewish Museum Vienna

The Jewish Museum Vienna offers an exciting program for the whole family throughout the summer. From July 4th to 7th, 2023, the Dorotheergasse Museum invites you to the program “Hase Ahoy! Stories from Paper” from the Children’s University of Art. The famous rabbit with the amber eyes and the equally famous Ephrussi family from Odessa travel with a number of other animals through time, history and the Jewish Museum Vienna. The means of transport is Noah’s Ark and because you can If you have to take breaks when traveling, the children also celebrate Shabbat, of course.You don’t need any luggage, just a lot of origami paper.

During the summer holidays, the “Click” children’s workshop in the Museum Dorotheergasse takes Maria Austria through all the floors and out into the city. The exhibition about Maria Oestreicher, born in Karlsbad in 1915, who has lived in the Netherlands since 1937 and is known as Maria Austria Becoming a photographer is the inspiration. How does she like it in the museum? What would she photograph? Something from the exhibition or rather a detail from the display depot? Perhaps she finds the museum facade much nicer? Maria Austria photographed with a portable Rolleiflex, in this workshop Polaroid cameras are used.In the museum studio, the snapshot becomes a small work of art.

Mozart’s Musical Club in the Mozarthaus Vienna

In July, the workshop series “Mozart’s Musical Club” will take place under the direction of Joanna Pacula-Nowak. The workshop offers families and children the opportunity to get to know Mozart’s musical world and try out various rhythm instruments in the concert hall. Afterwards, a lot of exciting knowledge about the musical genius will be imparted as part of a guided tour through the Mozart House.

House of Music: Children’s tours and concerts in summer

During the summer months, too, the Haus der Musik invites children aged 5 to 10 to go on a musical journey of discovery. Every Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. there are exciting children’s tours in the Sound Museum. In the House of Music, children can go on an exciting journey into the world of sounds and music – with exciting, funny and unique stations. Roll your personal waltz, create your own sound creature in the virtual reality sound laboratory, or let the frogs jump to the music at the zoo concert – everything is possible here!

The popular children’s songwriter Bernhard Fibich will also sweeten the summer for his young audience with funny hands-on concerts. On July 9th, 23rd and 30th and on August 13th, 20th and 27th, 2023 at 5 p.m. Fibich will ensure a lot of good mood on the stage in the Haus der Musik! Children and adults are playfully involved in the concerts.
