Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, Bud Spencer, Claudia Cardinale, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor, Sigourney Weaver… They are stars of the seventh art who walked a few decades ago through the Tabernas desert in Almeria, the only one in all of Europe. They shot great hits on the big screen in arid terrain to turn the province of Almeria into a kind of ‘miniHollywood’ on national territory. And years later a theme park emerged in Tabernas, heart of the desert, with the ‘spaghetti western’ as the protagonist. The same one that hundreds of young people from Palencia are going through these weeks with the camps of the Sports Service of the Diputación de Palencia.
They soaked up and enjoyed how films such as ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ (1964), ‘Death Had a Price’ (1965) or ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’ (1966) were shot. And all this, more than half a century after those movie classics. A visit to the theme park is one of the many activities included in the maritime camp of Aguadulce (Almería). Before and after the trip to the desert, 75 adolescents (225 in total when counting the three shifts) also enjoy activities in the Mediterranean. Canoes, paddle surf and snorkel add to the most exciting moments with the donuts or the banana, these pushed by a motor boat.
Water sports to which was added a visit in canoes to Cabo de Gata to put the culmination of ten days of camping with jumps and slides in the water park of Roquetas de Mar.
If the sea had its special relevance in Aguadulce, in the Sierra de Cazorla (Jaén) it was the mountain. Adrenaline in all corners with canyoning activities, descents, zip lines and everything that includes action in the heart of the mountains.
The offer of the Diputación de Palencia will be extended at the end of the month with another camp in Entrambasaguas (Cantabria). It will be the turn of the smallest of the province. With them, there will be 400 young people from Palencia who will have enjoyed the summer in different parts of the Spanish geography with sport as a link.

More than 300 young people will participate in the activities of the urban camp ‘Campamuriel Don Bosco 2023’ at the facilities of the Don Bosco Center in Villamuriel de Cerrato. The first of the urban camps will culminate with a second starting this Monday. The TOSI 2023 Rural Camp in Astudillo is also being prepared starting tomorrow and until the 28th.
Alongside these camps, there is a volunteer camp where young people from both towns and from outside the province participate free of charge, offering their time to children, many of whom have no financial means to participate in other initiatives.
Santi Domínguez, director of the Don Bosco Youth Center and coordinator of the three camps and volunteer camp indicates that “we have continued to offer projects and educational activities in free time in summer. Caring for children and adolescents is a social and community priority. Education in free time is a permanent process, at the service of the development of children and adolescents and their care.
“Free time is a right of children, adolescents and young people, and the game, its main support, the instrument to grow as a person,” he emphasizes.
