Square Enix’s new action RPG Forspoken is coming out tomorrow on PC and PlayStation 5 console, which recently faced a lot of criticism mainly because of the not very convincing demo version and also because of the failure to provide review keys to many journalists.
All reviews here are purely for the PS5 version, as At the time of writing, there is no PC review available.

Forspoken is absolutely fantastic. With all the magic, gear, great fights, bosses and a story to match even the best, this is proof that Square Enix knows exactly how to make a great video game and will continue to excel at it for years to come.

Forspoken is an incredible title. Although the story suffers from being too generic, the gameplay is inventive and absolutely brilliant. It is a game that I will return to again and again just to move and exist in a fascinating fantasy world. Forspoken is an exciting leap forward for action games and I can’t get enough of it.

After all that, Forspoken seems like a solid new IP. It has its fair share of problems, but the longer you spend in Athia, the more you’ll be drawn into its world with interesting combat and the sheer joy of traversing vast environments with enchanting abilities. Luminous Productions definitely hit the nail on the head with this concept, it just wants to pay a little more attention to the technical condition and details. But at least Forspoken has proven its qualities and potential to one day stand alongside Square Enix’s biggest brands.

The story and combat in Forspoken fall short of movement and exploration, but thankfully the latter two make up the bulk of the experience. I completed the campaign in about 15 hours and now I have a vast world in front of me, full of nooks and crannies that I will gladly explore. The story didn’t stay with me for long and I often avoided the open world fights, but I really enjoyed discovering the secrets of the world.

Fans of open-world adventures have plenty to dive into, and Forspoken doesn’t lack its charm, but the protagonist is often the weakest part of the game.

The character development and lore of Forspoken is disastrous, but the game makes up for it with incredible combat and world exploration.

Forspoken is a fun action game that excels best when you use great magic movement to dash through the fantasy world of Athia and destroy enemies with stunning spells. However, it lacks content, its RPG systems are weak, and its visuals are less mature than promised. The potential of Forspoken is thus largely untapped in its current state. For fans of the genre, this is still a decent game to have a go at, though we recommend a discount or inclusion in one of the many subscription services.

Forspoken’s flashy combat and movement can be fun, but it’s not enough to make its clichéd story and bare open world interesting to explore.

It’s a shame, because Forspoken’s terrible story and unlikable main character pretty much bring down an otherwise decent action RPG. There is a basis for something good here, but unfortunately this potential is not being used.

Forspoken is at its best when it’s racing through the beautiful world of Athia while casting all sorts of spells. But the story makes the game very interesting.

Forspoken is a visually impressive game that delights with music, but boring combat, poor character rendering, and weak movement mechanics make it a mediocre experience.

Forspoken was supposed to be an imaginative and attractive new beginning for Luminous Productions, but unfortunately the result is a game that is not only bland and underdeveloped, but lacks any reason to care about it at all. A plethora of technical shortcomings, a bland design of the open world and, above all, disappointment in the form of an absolute minimum of moments that really please.
